Beryl's story
From about the age of 18 I remember attending the United Reformed Church in Lenham. Valerie Cross remembers me there with my mum. I have always had a strong faith, more so since I have been on my own because I have had so many answers to prayer. I will tell you just one story… Every fortnight Jackie would come to the house to do my hair, which I have always kept very short. One day she said to me, ‘Your ear is sore, I advise you to go to the Doctor’. Lenham surgery sent me to Canterbury hospital where they said I needed to have a piece of my ear removed to cut out the cancer. It was close to Christmas and the news upset me a lot. I didn’t want to be messed about with and the word ‘cancer’ frightened me. Jenny and Gail from the United Reformed Church came to visit me and we all said prayers together. Jenny then bathed my ear in some oil she had brought with her. Jenny laid her hands on me and prayed out loud and so did Gail. She asked for God’s help. A few weeks later I was sent for, to go to Canterbury for the operation on my ear. I had a pre-operative examination. I was very surprised when the doctor said ‘There is no need to have anything done, your cancer is going away.’ I got up and shook her hand and said ‘Thank you very much, I am a believer’.
Here at Lenham URC we believe that God answers prayer. We would love to pray with/for anyone who would like it. Contact jenny@lenhamurc.org.uk
