Romans 12 v 4-5 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others |
This term we are learning in our carecells about the church being the 'body' of Christ, and how we are designed to be a team, combining our gifts and efforts to serve Jesus and fulfil the purpose he has for us, and to build his Kingdom here in Lenham and Harrietsham.
He is teaching us this term about unity. There is a real sense of Jesus being King, and as we unite in worshipping and serving him, he is coming among us! Jesus wants to come among us as King and take us to the next level as a church. This can be as we worship together in celebrations, in our carecells, our families, in fact wherever we come together in Jesus' name!
At the bottom of the page is a song about Jesus coming as King as we praise together. We sang it a lot at Detling. As you listen to it, join in, and tell Jesus that praise awaits him in our church, and we long for him to come among us as King! Every barrier ('gate') that gets in the way of him coming must be opened or removed.
Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Psalm 24 v 7
The harvest
As we celebrate harvest festival, we are not just thinking about tractors and ploughs. We are thinking about the harvest of people that God has promised us. Jesus talked about it in a different way, when he talked about fishing, a different type of harvest.
|
As Jesus walked beside the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come follow me", Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him. Mark 1 v 16-18 |
Andrew Mills shared with us elders, how he sees lots of connections developing. When Jesus called the disciples, there would have been many friendships and other incidents that prepared the way for their encounter with Jesus. He is doing the same thing among us and the people we know. There have been testimonies of God bringing people together in amazing ways, and opening doors that seemed closed.
We are commissioning spiritual parents at the harvest service, and recognising how those people have moved on to the next step of their journey with God as part of this church. Let's celebrate together, and believe him for many more in the future. This is just the beginning. With God nothing is impossible, the doors are opening.
A prophetic sign
Most of you know about the bomb that was dropped on the old church building over 50 years ago. (If not, see the history page under information). A plane from Detling dropped a bomb by mistake and it hit our church and destroyed it. the current church building was built afterwards.
You know the story, but have you ever thought of it as a prophetic sign?
We have been going to the Detling conference for 10 years now, and our church group has grown every year. (next year we are going to take over a village...)
God has shown us how he has released something from the Detling conference (in a spiritual sense) which has been a bit like a bomb going off in our church. We have gone through a massive change, and it has seemed like chaos at times.
But God is doing a new thing, like the new church building that was built. He says
"The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house."
Haggai 2 v 7
This is because the new thing that God is doing is building, his body, the people. Instead of a 'building' we have emerging a living community with Jesus as the head. Praise God!
Here comes the King!
